Oberammergau

We spent a wonderful time shopping in Oberammergau, despite the rain.

This beautiful village is famous for its Passion Play performed every ten years in gratitude for being saved from the Plague 700 years ago.  All the shops and houses are decorated with the most beautiful paintings.

The town is surrounded by beautiful mountains.

The shops were absolutely gorgeous, especially the Christmas specialty shops.

You may not know I collect Santas and love bringing them out to display every December.  I have to tell you that a few new ones are coming home with me from this trip.

I am also fond of nutcrackers!

I found this interesting fountain in the centre of the village.

And this lovely statue.

We had only planned to spend a little time here but decided to stay the whole day and postpone our Sound of Music tour to another day.  Unfortunately we were caught up in Road works on the way to Salzburg.  During roadworks, they seem to close entire highways and we could not find any detour signs.  We travelled two hours out of our way to finally arrive in Salzburg by 9pm!  Very pleased to get straight to bed.
